I know this is a ‘general’ guideline. But I personally never knew that there’s a specific time period linked to the Arts and Craft movement.. And also the Atomic Age link to antiques/vintage. Interesting that Egyptian Revival has a assumed set pattern..

    Interesting!
I'm anticipating another Egyptian Revival in 2022 due to it being the 100th anniversary of Howard Carter's discovery of King Tut's tomb.

I wonder if there are some variations to this timeline as some styles took time to travel to different countries

I'd yes, but from what I saw a lot of the variations were built in. In the USA a lot of styles begun in the UK or on the Continent too up to five years (if not more) to take off here.

The Egyptian and Roman revival stongly intertwined with the Regency era, the furniture and design distinctly based on Greek and Roman influence with acess to ancient greece suddenly more possible than ever. A french dude was among the first to incorporate the style into his interior design in the late 18th century. Thomas Hope and Sheraton designed regency furniture based on the trend Thomas Hope had influenced a number of decorative styles known variously as Neoclassical, Empire, Russian Empire, and Regency architecture in Britain. This trend even heavily influnenced Clothing fashion particuarly among women with distinct roman and Greek dress.

Thanks, K.:) Focused on the US and the UK, but also some more general Western 'stuff'.
I think Davey also posted a useful timeline once.
There was actually another Egyptian Revival, at least in jewellery, after the movie 'Cleopatra' was released in 1963.
Love that, thanks for showing us.

Is the door knocker a door knocker, or has it morphed into a towel bar?

The Hollywood regency or Regency Modern is sometimes attributed to Joan crawford and Billy Haines, Haines who was a leading actor in the silent film industry was terminated from MGM for his perverse relationship with his partner Jimmie which he refused to end. Haines got involved in interior design and transformed the dark and spanish influenced neo colonial interiors he was used too on Movie sets and introduced a brighter hybrid of 18th Century english manor. Seems rather simple in hindsight, and no doubt Regency with it's similar theme fit perfectly. Dark colours with green and gold, and Egyptian and Roman influence no doubt reflected perfectly with Hollywood movies sets of the time, and his first project was on Joan Crawfords House and then every other actors house in hollywood.

I doubt we will see a Egyptian Revivial as Regency Modern was just a perfect fit for the time. However, the origional Regency was very unique and interesting and combined with Hollywood regency, it makes the antiques from the period more compelling from a collectors view.

Chairs are quite cheap at the moment so if you see a regency Chair you should possibly take it.

I would love to get a british regency armchair by George Smith 1804

The word deluxe comes from "de Luxor" (from Luxor) for antiquities sent back to France from Egypt during the Napoleonic campaigns.
