The ring has been sized, and any markings that were there are gone. It tests 14K. The stone, even with some scratches/abrasions is lovely, a very clear pale lavender, nicer than I was able to capture. My gemologist called this rose de France.
I wonder what time period this ring dates to. It certainly looks vintage to me but I can't narrow it down any further.
    Thanks for any help.

Hard to tell how old it is,hand fabricated and probably made before 1940. The prongs have been replaced and are very thin now from wear.It also looks like one side of the shank has been repaired where it meets the setting.

    Thanks everyone.
Fits me perfectly. I'm tempted to keep it even though it is not my usual style.

It's very pretty, does look antique, and I always say...."One can NEVER have too many rings".... at least one of my fave sayings....!!!:joyful::):D So, if you love it... and don't need to sell it.....KEEP it and wear it!!!!!!!!!

It is gorgeous, drg. And I agree, a Rose de France amethyst.
The name Rose de France, French Rose, has nothing to do with France though. Most Rose de France amethysts came from Brazil.;)
    I agree.

If you are going to keep it, it is best to have those prongs checked.

Brazil has the best coloured stones. I did a tour of H Stern in Rio.

    Oh my lord.
