Four-drawer chest... how old?

How old, do you think?
Would this be considered Federal style?
Sorry, no measurements available, and these are the only photos.
It's rather plain but I like it and I'm considering a purchase, but first I'm trying to learn more and would like opinions.
It's located in the USA.

The drawer pulls are Hepplewhite.

 

Can you tell me where? Furniture is really not my forte...

 

My guess is made somewhere in the NE US. Hepplewhite pulls have been used for a long time, so hard to pin down a date in my mind.

 

The pulls are Hepplewhite but, the feet are ogee bracket Chippendale so..........
either the feet or pulls or both have been replaced.
Guesses chest is first half 19th-century but, the feet & pulls contradict one another. The Federal period here is 1790-1830.

Now we get to the tough part!
Offer $200! and negotiate! if it was me. It looks to be in good condition which is a plus but the feet/pull thing are two different eras, Chippendale 1770-1800 & Federal 1790-1830.
If you buy it you could change the pulls to Chippendale and call it GOOD! much easier than messing with the feet.

On the 5th pic down from the top, the key escutcheon, it looks like it had a previous escutcheon with 3 nail holes and a very faint witness mark of a Chippendale "Christmas Tree" escutcheon.

 

Your chest is Chippendale, probably late, say 1800 or so, country built with 4 graduated & lipped drawers with ogee bracket feet. Looks to be in good condition as well.

 

If you like it yes, even 350 is not out of line at all for this chest, I would change those pulls though, looks odd with those federal era pulls.

Funny, I don't see those marks on the top drawer.

 

Yes, I saw those holes too. Original holes? hard to say and we can't see the backside of the drawer fronts either which would help.
That's a problem with photographs & old furniture, it's very limited.
This is why if you go to see in person, give it a good going over, MUCH EASIER to see details in person than with pics.
It's not unusual for a chest of this age to have several different sets of pulls/handles as that is an easy way to update furniture fashions that anyone can do.

 

I'd leave those pulls on there, but I'm not a purist. They've been on that chest for a long, long time so this might be a case for leaving bad enough alone. Unless you have period brasses handy; then the game changes.

 

Kind of looking to me like the top drawer is either refinished or totally replaced.....

Yep.... the more I scrutinize the photos... the more I'm not inclined to make the drive.

 

LOL, Well the Bloom is OFF that little romance pretty fast!
It depends on what your goals are here, personal use or trying to sell.
If trying to flip is probably not worth the drive, OTOH if for personal use you are not likely to do better for $300. on a period Chippendale chest that is 200+ years old.

 

The excitement has definitely worn off.
It was for personal use. That said, I don't like to purchase something that I wouldn't made a profit on if I did decide to sell.
