Does anyone know anything about this? It appears to be a wood block print by shoson ohara although the signature is different from those attributed to him online. Looks original under close examination though its also close in size to a sheet of A4 paper. Also something mysterious written on the back of the frame, I'm not sure if it relates to the picture but it does seem to read "yokohama"
Thoughts on the "signature"? Its quite similar to other shoson ohara goose and moon prints excepts the sunjects are positioned differently
Shoson Ohara used at least 3 names, Hoson, Koson and Shoson, and used a variety of signatures. If you can find a copy in a library (they are rather expensive on the market), this reference might be helpful: Crows, Cranes & Camellias: The Natural World of Ohara Koson 1877-1945. by Amy Reigle Newland, Jan Perrée, & Robert Schaap Published by Brill, Netherlands, 2009 ISBN: 9004181067
Could you do a close up without using your zoom? I was trying to expand the pics but they were pixelating. You can pick any area with some detail.
Thank you. I wasn't using the zoom maybe its the lighting but I'll take some better pictures it doesn't match anything on https://ukiyo-e.org/. There arn't any printing dot patterns I can see if that's what you're looking for
I might try and take it out of the frame and see if I can find any more clues. I'm surprised noone recognises the signature. This is what I mean by similar pictures, I'd think it was the same artist except for the signature
In my opinion you are looking at the wrong artist. Without trying very hard I was able to find at least a half a dozen other artists that did images that look very similar to yours. I think you need to click around a bit more.
