hmmmm.... I need help, meaning me!! :D I didn't mean for Any Jewelry's whole post to repeat but there doesn't seem to be an 'obvious' option to remove a new post once you start one. I can only Reply, not remove and start over. Does it have to do with the +Quote button? Or is there a way to delete a started post that I'm not seeing? Thanks!

You should have Edit. It’s not s big deal. You can use quote, to pull out a part of someone’s post.

It is ok, it doesn't show the entire post, except when you click to expand.
It has to do with how much you highlighted (is that the right term?) when wanting to reply.
You can delete the contents of a post, but there will still be a post. Wow, I am explaining this well, aren't I?:hilarious:

Okay, thanks! And now I get that I might need the whole post of another to comment on it while other posts come in. And it is minimized. But I can also use portions of a post. I've been visiting here for several months and haven't noticed these 'important' details necessary now that I'm here officially.

I'll try this again: @Any Jewelry - did that work? The boats now make sense in my painting for the left one that has two masts, that it's a barge. The right-hand one still appears van Gogh-ish with the 'dots' and stripe of white along the bow, why I thought of him but proportionally, the boats would be much bigger, more like barges, just because of the size of the door in the buildings and the windmill! Wow - all such great info and I'm looking at this painting more closely than I ever have! Thanks again - and for the database also. :)

I am somewhat puzzled by people treating paintings as if they were photographs, representations of actual places and objects.
Some are, I know, but I cannot imagine any artist worth his salt not adding a tree or building or moving some part of the scene to a place more where it should be than actually is. As a painter you get to make stuff up. If bricks look better make it bricks. If the water is too wide or narrow, fix it.

By 'painting by numbers' I did not mean literal painting by numbers, but some sort of scheme of instructions to produce the effect such as simple illustrations of the various layers in the order to be painted.

Many amateur artists try to emulate known works. My intention is to see if that was the case here.:)

I think the windmill-house combo could be fantasy, since windmills are more likely to be combined with a place of work. A house would be next to it or somewhere in the vicinity.
But I see no harm in trying to see if a similar location or original painting can be found. It is part of research, and many members have come up with some very nice results over the years.
Besides, it has lead us to some nice Monets, a van Gogh, and has expanded our knowledge of windmills.:)

Okay - and that makes so much sense when attempting something like this where you have to start with the upfront details and end with the background. Regular painting is just the opposite. Not easy to make that switch without practice or a scheme to follow. Good idea! You could actually start a small business selling something like that since there aren't many people out there doing this. :D ??

And I totally agree on adding and removing things in paintings. I was thinking if I found a painting similar, made before the attempt on glass, I might find the artist. Or like @i need help said, a painting to copy. Or the scene itself possibly if still in existence, though that was a stretch, certainly. All in all, as @Any Jewelry said, it was a good conversation and an especially interesting first posting for me. I learned quite a lot!!! :D
