    Hi all,

Found these today. Look to be framed by the same shop, but with some months, or even years, between. Note the telephone area code and address change.

I think the unsigned lake and chapel scene painting is amateur. Hoping someone recognizes the scene.

The other painting (signed by E. Smith) intrigues me.

Looks like he planted one on her after giving her flowers, and (captured moment) she is taking off running from the shock. Seems he's into the kiss (eyes closed), but she's not (eyes open).

Wondering what you all think about the scenario and setting and if you recognize the artist.

Thank you in advance for any help and/or comments.

I'd say he's head over heels in love.

Well thought! Can you tell the setting from the clothing or other aspects?

Based on your tip (or was it a test?), I found out that it is Artist E. Smith's reproduction/replica of Marc Chagall's 1915 "L'anniversaire," which depicts him with his wife and muse, Bella.

One mystery solved. Now if we can only figure out who E. Smith is and if his or her work is valuable.

I would think E Smith were famous, he/she would paint their own vision, not copy someone else's painting.

In this case I agree but that is definitely not always true. Van Gogh for one, Warhol for another and many many more.

I suspect it only has value as a decorative item. I found at least one place that does hand painted Chagall replicas, they charge about $300.

In general, I am in total agreement. I disliked copy assignments at the university I attended. Often copies are done as a part of student work, this may be one.

Very true. However, this never helped me to appreciate their works.
Some artists did this because they were friends. Some to study the work of others.

It is a charming copy! :)

Yes decorative value seems to be what this one boils down to, thanks.

I think I feel the same way on direct copying of image and I don’t think I’d want anything that does although I understand there’s highly respected blue chip art copied from others. OK I take that back as i’d love to own Warhol flowers but he was sued on that one. I know i’m OK with derivative as I have a ton of Desimone.

i think the painting will be bought quickly.

    Thanks everyone for your feedback!

The Chagall copy stole the show. Any thoughts about the other painting?

Sunday hobby painter, auction it off inexpensively. The frame is probably worth more than the painting, but I didn't see how large it is?

I personally don’t like it very much. Reminds me of a image from children’s fairytale book.. But also I’m not very artistic :).. Nice frame!

Apologies from me but I’ve got nothing to add other than i believe every pot has multiple lids so there’s probably a home for it somewhere other than yours.

Thx for the advice. The frame is about 27" x 24."

Thought the same thing about another painting I picked up the same day as the one we're discussing--I figured it'd go nicely in my girl's son's room. 1234.jpg 124.jpg 12.jpg
