Far from antique, more like made yesterday but what are these beads please? I nearly passed over it as tat until I saw the little crystals in some of the beads. The only thing I can think is hematite as Mary Contrary gem indicator went mad saying it was metal. She then sat in a corner and sulked until I recalibrated her . Not magnetic however and I’ve only seen smooth hematite beads before. Dyed something?
Any help welcome as I’m intrigued.
    Thankyou :)

The innards look like pyrite; the outside looks chemically treated. I feel I've heard what this is before but it's not coming to mind. Not bismuth.

They are probably coated with titanium oxide, colours are right and explains the meter reading.

Yes! It does look like pyrite, I couldn’t think what it reminded me of.

Those Dakota ones are nicer but these say electroplated which would explain the gem indicator meltdown.
    Mystery solved. Thanks everyone :)

The process is the same as making mystic topaz, aurora borealis stones, etc.

So mystic topaz is just a coating? I’ve seen them advertised but not looked closely.

Yes,it's a metallic powder coating on white topaz, sometimes not really topaz.

It was somewhere in the back of my mind too, but I was a bit too druzy to remember, it is still early here.:)
