Help with signature

Hey everyone! Bought this really cool art piece today. It is original (not a print) but looks cheaply framed?? Can anyone make out the artist? Looks Scandinavian maybe?

 

yes, it's been recently and poorly framed......... but 2009......it won't be an antique until 2109.....

 

Surprised at how late the date is. It looks very mid-century to me.

 

typical Scandinavian girl ! they have ALL dark curly hair...

JMHO. an orthodox eastern European beauty. or Greek. or Eastern Roman Empire.

 

Thought the same thing. Looks very Byzantine. And the building with domed roof would suggest the East.

Only word I can see is QUALITY.

Quality Control? Well, that's not very helpful. What's the medium? And I'm going to differ re framing. I like it and think it suits the work.

It looks like oil on paper? What do you think of the quality of the work? Professional or student?

 

Is it behind glass? Why don't you open the back up and see what you find? Looks like you could do so without difficulty. Certainly appears to have been done by someone who know what s/he was doing. (Look at the economy of the curls framing her face, for instance.)

I would suggest, yes, it looks like it's under glass, with that shiny diagonal streak across it..........

 

Good eyes. I think you're right. So unlikely oil on paper. Gouache perhaps.

oh...I'm with you there.....I find the size, color , thickness.....all to complement to painting...

but....

the mat is already starting to turn brown.....

the corner staples
the serrated hooks..

that's all Walmart cheap ass frame stuff , ready made out of china...

 

Some elements of the signature look similar to Brahmi script.

 

I certainly won't argue that it's an inexpensive frame. You're right. Better said... I like the idea of the frame but not its execution.
