Who is Toth Kato?

I mentioned in my first post that I had a few other small paintings needing some help as per identification. These are signed by what looks to me as "Toth Kato" but I could be misreading the letters. I've tried researching the name several times and nothing comes up to point to any kind of possibilities but again I may not be spelling it correctly - plus I haven't the accrued knowledge and/or admirable resources that many of you have.

The medium appears to be gauche or thinned oils. I've never removed them from the frames. I will if nobody here has any idea either, to see if the backs reveal anything. Again, these were found in a house attic once owned by a couple who were German (according to new landlord), where I lived back in early 1970s. No clue if the couple brought these over from Germany or acquired them here in the states or elsewhere. Any insight is much appreciated! TIA. :) tothkato-all3-900h_0520.jpg tothkato-largest_1000w_0531.jpg tothkato-largest-sig_1000w_0532.jpg tothkato-sm-summer_1000h_0533.jpg tothkato-summer-sig_1000h_0535.jpg tothkato-winter_1000h_0537.jpg tothkato-winter-sig_0539.jpg

    Pretty!!!
It seems there is an accent on both O in all the signatures:peeking::cyclops:
That may lead to a country where this is used in alphabet, and thus to the name:)

    It seems to be Hungarian!
There is a Tóth Eszter Kató on Facebook, not a painter, and youngest than your paintings, but this prove the name and first name exist in Hungary:)

Yes, Tóth is Hungarian, but they put the surname first and then the first name, so to us it is Kató Tóth. Like Katy Tóth, I presume.
Tóth is a very common surname in Hungary.

I don't think they're so gauche as all that. Maybe gouache.

    Sounds good.
I must say, I just glanced over the text, and went straight for Tóth. Must be the theologian in me, looking for Thoth.;)

Hi inh - I'll have to dig them out, they aren't hung up right now. But given new insight into the name, maybe new research will come up with something. I can hear you all thinking "She needs to open the backs..." :D :D

HA!! Well that shows how much of an artist I am!! I don't work in gouache and I've never had reason to call anyone gauche so the word appeared to be the right one. LOL That's too funny. Thanks for the call out absolutely!! :)

And now I know who Thoth is. "Thoth is the Egyptian god of writing, magic, wisdom, and the moon." He's pretty cool! I've seen images of him but the name never stuck. Thanks! ;)

I actually DID spell it wrong - guache - but it was the wrong word to begin with! We need an 'intent' check...no, we do not. But that will come next, if gaggle gets its way... :meh:
