So I received this silver tubular pendant with two bales - does not open but looks like it originally did open then was soldered. There is a rattle inside like another container or something? It did test as sterling but that doesn't mean a lot since it was a quick scratch test and could easily be plated. Does this looks like it would be for cremation purposes? It is kind of 'crude' or hand-made looking. One of the nibs on the end is not centered like the other and then there are the bales. I have seen a lot of the tubular type pendants and they were Navajo - nothing like this though. Might not even be a pendant. kasey.jpg kasey4.jpg kasey1.jpg kasey5.jpg kasey2.jpg Measures approx. 1.25 inches.
    Thank you for looking!

Hum.....would that be a small scroll or paper in a container then sealed? There is definitely something else in the tube enclosed in something.

I know @Any Jewelry has been taking a respite from the site, just 'lurking' sometimes, but maybe she'll see her knowledge could be used here. Definitely a prayer box/locket. They seem nearly always to be described as Tibetan, but suspect they are used in other Himalayan Buddhist cultures as well. This is where we need AJ. Maybe if I make enough misstatements we can lure her in.

I've seen quite a few threads were I felt the need to sign in, but didn't.
This time I will, since you were kind enough to risk your excellent reputation by volunteering misstatements.:playful::kiss:

It is either an Indian or a Middle Eastern prayer or amulet box. The two are related and I see no features to make a definite ID either way.
That one is 100% Yemeni. A Yemeni 'hirz'.

Tibetan amulet boxes or ghaus are flat boxes in different shapes, sometimes a flattened roundish shape, but never tubular.
Some you can open, others not.
