I've been looking online to try to find something like this, a cabinet on a lowboy that I bought a few years ago. The shop owner said it was French, but he was French, too, and might have been saying this to make the sale.

Wondering if anyone could give me some direction on it. I love the piece and don't ever plan to part with it, but wish I knew more about it.

Hmm,that sure looks like a "marriage" to me. Knee jerk reaction is 1930s-40s. That last pic looks like plywood, and I see a stamp there. My take is its the top part of some bookcase and the bottom part might be a server, but I could be way wrong so wait for others. Welcome aboard.

Welcome, Flying Finn! Maybe it's just a fortunate coincidence, but the drop in the center of the lowboy's skirt looks identical to the one at the top of the glass above.

Does that stamp say PTO or PTC?

Thanks all for the welcome! silverthwait, appreciate the nod to Paavo - I do my flying in a two seat sportscar ;-D

johnnycb09, spot on with the plywood, which is the back of the cabinet. Most everything else appears to be solid. I was thinking 30s/40s myself, just based on a gut reaction.

Bakersgma, I also noted the drop in the cabinet paired with the drop in the skirt/little drawer, as well as the reeded legs matching the reeded sides of the cabinet. Looks like PTO and on closer inspection, there may be another round character (O or C) next to the O (you might be able to barely see that in the photo).

Don't think it is a marriage. Just looks odd by American standards. Have seen other European pieces with narrow tops and wide bases. Could be French but couldn't say for sure. Just know it is not American.

    Hi and welcome!

I think I see P.T. CO so if that is CO as in company, I'd guess not French but then I really don't know.
