This lovely buckle was a whole 90p!
The workmanship looks to be of good quality.
I’m not sure quite how to describe it correctly but the top is smooth like glass and the decoration is under the clear layer.
How is this made? Is it machine turning, then paint, then clear enamel?
Any idea of the age please?
    Thanks for looking :)

All I know is I couldn’t have resisted it at that price either.

I know there's a name that goes with pieces made with this technique. Whether this is by that person is another matter, but it's a place to start, so hope someone comes along who remembers it.

Just had a thought, were you thinking Pierre Bex? There are definitely similarities but doesn’t feel quite right. The quality is better than most PB items I’ve seen. Unless it’s an early piece

Yes, that's it. You would think my mind could hang on to such a distinctive name. I have a little brooch in that style & always mean to keep the name Bex to go with it, even though it is not the real thing. Bex, Bex...

I can't decide if it's original Art Deco or a seventies remake. There was a lot of this back then.

It's not Deco in style, and the back is too well-made for anything but someone who actually cared. My guess is late 70s small batch factory. The enamel isn't shed work, but that back almost looks it.

Or possibly 1990s? 90s does Deco, Erte, etc.?

It seems to be very nice quality from the photos.

I would have purchased that in a heartbeat!!!

I suspect it could be true Art Deco, but as the others said, repro buckles were made in the 70s.
Not difficult to remember for me, to me Pierre Bex always sounds like a Brabant village shopkeeper.;) Many people around here are called Bex, Becx, Bax, Backx, Brox, Bloks, etc.
Most of the other names have the prefix 'van den' or 'van de'.

I'm with true Art Deco. To my eye, it's too weighty -- visual and otherwise -- for an interpretation.

Here's interpreted Deco from the 1970s/1980s (according to the etsy seller) for comparison.

Maybe if I associate it in my mind with that prominent New York family, the Bronks. Or with Bix Beiderbecke.
