OP: Thanks again to all. We have a local Freecycle group where I am. I will probably give them away there, and often the takers -- if not outright disaster victims -- are people in need.

Nice chairs, but a hard sell where I'm at. People pretty much summed up their description. It's usually kids starting out that have a table and are looking for chairs that would buy them based on my past experience. If I came across them , I would of passed. Good Luck.

 

Looks like Louis XVI got together with Sheraton and asked the Thonet brothers about doing some canework, as Frank Lloyd Wright chimed in about the shape of back, and recommended a fella from Provence to do some carving. The effect is a mess, but perhaps surprisingly, not altogether unpleasant.
The armchairs actually look like they could be comfortable, even if yet another element is added.
