I am not familiar with the backmark

What i can say is it a Kutani Sei style, and it has elements of satsuma kyoto

copy of the Pattern: Japanese geisha ware porcelain with "River's Edge" type pattern.

Looks maybe vintage, maybe try google vintage ko kutani sei.

Yw, Maybe someone will come on later and might be able to tell you what the backmark represents.

They look similar but the 'lin kelly' one is defintely a kutani mark with the Ku
( kanji) clearly shown. The Op's i am not so sure it is a Ku mark.

Doesn't it say your example is Satsuma? I am easily confused.

Yes, that is Lian Kelly's attribute to an item that is likely a satsuma. However the OP's 'japanese cup and saaucer' is clearly a kutani, maybe a ko kutani.

There are a seldom few satuma backmarks that also contain the kutani Ku symbol.
Such as this mark which is satsuma on porcelain.Ce Bca has said that many satsuma artists during the economic depression in japan began to work on Kutani also.

Also i am not sure the OP and Lian kelly are the same mark.

It's another of these inter-war mash-up pieces when the Japanese economy was in trouble. Also agree it looks like hiragana characters for Satsuma, but it looks like a combination of Satsuma and Kutani styles decoratively. It is also a porcelain body, so technically it isn't Satsuma.

It is a very good example of this. Thank you Ce Bca, I appreciate learning these unique details. It helps in understanding Japanese Satuma and kutani.
