octagonal brooch dyed? missing stone?

Bought in a combo lot.I think the paint is not original.

should I remove the paint or leave it as is? which stone fits in the middle?

Marked on the back but I don't see what it says. any idea who the maker is?

Are the two areas where an old broken clasp has been removed and replaced with the one that’s there now? Or is it definitely a makers mark? I can’t work it out.

 

good point, since it's right in line with the other end of what appears to be also remnants of a broken off pin.....

AND if it were me, I'd find a way to get rid of that 'sloppy' paint on the front!

 

i dont know but the one looks horizontaly placed and the other verticaly. There is also these 3 slanting lines

 

i also want to remove it but how do i do that without damaging the metal?

 

I would wait for others suggestions......

 

Acetone is usually my go to for removing paint but I stress I’m no expert. @kyratango may have advice.

 

You're right Aceton is good!

 

Someone glued a new cheapish clasp on that. I'm half thinking it started out as a buckle.
