This was last weeks $9.99 thrift store find. It is nice sized with the image size being about 28 X 20. I really like the detail and am impressed with the attention to making sure the level of detail decreased as the picture progresses from foreground to background. I found it at a thrift shop in Three Rivers, Michigan. I have been going back and forth as to whether it is a Michigan scene, it is quite flat where I live. The barn may also help as each state seems to have unique barn styles and materials used. I did a little research on the framer and it looks like he is still around the area, so I might try to contact him. The signature does look at bit familiar to me, so I may have seen a work by this artist before. I am guessing it dates to the 1970's. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. A very assured piece with a nice economic use of brushstrokes. Wouldn't be surprised if not work of a commercial illustrator rather than an artist per se. Hard to date but... The framer is in his 80s so we can assume not recent. Why don't you see if telephone number still in operation? A small town like Sturgis, MI, he's very likely to remember client. Could be a fellow art educator.

To avoid that bowed image, stand back a bit and zoom slightly

Never does a painting justice when your shooting too close

That doesn't appear to be his signature.
