Wanted to see what you all thought of a vintage Christian Dior shirt I found at a local thrift store.
The name is great, but the look is ... dated?! I can imagine a guy wearing it on his sailboat back in the 60's or 70's, but would anyone wear this today?
I bought it, but I think the name mesmerized me because looking at it now I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to sell it.
Any thoughts (what style should I call it?) would be greatly appreciated!

Looks more 1980s/early '90s to me.
This is from one of Dior's licensed ready-to-wear department store lines. I'm afraid I don't bother with buying this type of stuff for re-sale (there's quite a lot of it available in my big city thrifts) but you never know. :)

There are always some who will buy anything Dior but as stated this shirt was an inexpensive mass produced licensed piece that is not recognized as Dior to Dior collectors but may be bought by someone who doesn’t know the difference.

    It’s an 80s blouson IMO.

It was $19.99 so I should break even right?
    Thanks for the info!

Hopefully. I wouldn’t have bought it at any price but that’s just my personal opinion.

    Me, neither.
I'd probably never get more than $10 for it, and that's after it sits a year or two in my inventory.
BUT you never know, if the right person comes along...

Yes, licensed Dior. Another once-great design house which licensed itself to death in the 80s. $19.99 is pretty much the end I’m afraid.

Just to beat a dead horse but...yep. It's 80s and not couture. There are some kids out there who want 80s clothes, and if they find it you shouldn't take too big a bath on it. I made a similar mistake, although cheaper, with Oleg Cassini glassware once. The name got licensed and while it's nice giftware doesn't command great prices.

I’ll be brave and go against the consensus. I think this is the type of vintage/retro look that young hipster types are looking for right now. Good color and good condition and the average customer won’t care if it was department store Dior, it just has the look. I bet you get $40-$100. I’d probably try at $75 or so. I know very little about vintage clothing but I think it has the look for what’s in demand right now based on that little knowledge. Let’s see what comes out in the wash! Update us when it sells.

Make sure you ship overseas too. The last Dior Monsieur shirt I looked at quickly was sold in Australia.

I think my father had a quite similar shirt and I concur it is the 1980's

If I had to bet i’d put money on 80s on both design and outsourcing.

For the longest time I was intimidated by international shipping. Both the process and scared about fraud. If someone reached out to me and specifically asked about one of my items and they had good feedback I would switch international shipping on for them. Otherwise I only did domestic. Recently I wanted to up my game a bit and turned on international on specific items I thought may have a more international appeal. It worked well. Since then nearly everything I list I do international as an option. It has been AMAZING!!! I’m selling quite a bit international now. Waiting a month to see if your expensive item arrives can be a little stressful but man has it been worth it. eBays international shipping option makes it super easy now too. It’s really been great for me and now I’m just annoyed I didn’t do it sooner.

Agree. Because eBay handles global shipments now just like selling/shipping to Peoria, IL.

I still ship directly myself rather than using eBay global shipping. One fewer set of fingers in the shipping pie that way. Sooner or later they'll force you to use one of their international shipping services though.
