Greg - Last summer, I pitted almost 20 pounds of cherries using wine bottles and a chopstick. When one bottle was full of pits, I'd have to find another. Since I don't generally keep empty wine bottles lying around, DH & I had to do a bit of drinking before I could finish the cherries.

I'd call it a labor of love - and one that I doubt I'll EVER try again!

 

Sometimes it's hard for me to conceptualize how to do things without seeing a demonstration. In case anybody else is like me, here is a YouTube video on how to use a chopstick and a wine bottle to pit cherries. And now I know!

I must admit to filling more than a few bottles but since we have a wonderful recycling system now I clean the seeds out and into the bird feeders they go the pits that is.

Hi,
I put them out for the squirrels. I look to see them try and crack them since they can't they usually bury them. Hoping to see some new cherry trees. In my feeders the birds come, the squirrels come and the deer come, all to eat the seeds. Since the feeders are lower to the ground the deer eat the seeds and NOT my plants. especially my Hostas. Everyone else's Hostas ge5t chewed to nothing, mine all look wonderful.
