I bought this in a flea market yesterday for 100 Kr (10 Euro) and i saw the signature and stamp on the paper,I didn't believe my eyes,is this a collotype of the original painting??
The size and everything is exactly like the original painting, I have tried to get you a close up of the painting I have to see if this is a collotype or watercolor?!
But the they did some collotype after the original painting. Thanks for your reply https://www.franceshodgkins.com/pumpkins1935
Collotype, 52 x 70 cm Published by Ganymed, 1952 from the 1935 gouache The image used to produce the present original collotype “Pumpkins” is that of the gouache Pumpkins and Pimenti (circa 1935) owned at the time by Sir Kenneth Clark, Director of the National Gallery, and now held in the collection of The Fletcher Trust.
Looking at the photos you have shown, it looks like only one color has been added by hand as an overpaint, and no telling how extensively. The other colors look mechanical.
Thank you again I will search and and se if there are more collotype made by others. Please let me know if you find something
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/19455220802630594 There were two examples of watercolours from the AAG collection which demonstrated that Hodgkins also reused her papers. Eggs and Ferns, c.1931 (1954/9/3) and Phoenician Pottery and Gourds both showed evidence of the artist wiping out images that she may not have been happy with and using the sheet again, turning it over to paint on the other side (Fig. 2). Similar examples are known in other collections such as Tate Britain, the watercolour and gouache Portrait of Kitty West (N07814) being one of them. The reason for this practice may have been that Hodgkins was fairly poor for most of her career and often relied on friends to supply her with materials.
I can't make head nor tails of it. You need to find another copy of the print that has the same blind stamp. It's possible the Ganymed changed their stamp over time. I do not know.
