I'm pretty sure this is by Jesse Greenberg (signed J Greenberg but has Jesse on back of canvas - unless a customer's name) and I liked it as soon as I saw it in a local thrift store!
It looks like Fiddler on the Roof on drugs!
Any thoughts on the painting or info on the artist would be greatly appreciated - I don't want to list it wrong when I go to sell it.
Can I call this A Surreal Fiddler on the Roof?
    Thank You!

I can see why it ended up at the thrift store.

Ouch - I had someone offer me $20 right after I put it in my cart and they would pay stores price for it at register too - but I wanted to check it out more.

Agree re Fiddler on the Roof. There is an up and coming young artist named Jesse Greenberg. Perhaps it's a juvenile work.

Artspace writes: The biological forms evoked by Greenberg’s wall works and small sculptures are as familiar as they are discomforting. Composed of urethane resin and colored pigment, the works contain percolating bubbles and a flowing alchemy, a painterly quality complimented by a palette that is alternately seductive and repulsive. Greenberg says, “I’m witness to these bizarre fluid moments, and though I’m making sculpture, my medium is liquids, and the membranes that contain them.”

And you can see how a young artist would progress from Fiddler to this.

He's represented by Derek Eller Gallery. If you have the temerity you can ask.

As long as you mean if I have the confidence to ask them & not the audacity, of course I do(!)
I saw work above & a few others but couldn't find his signature to compare on any of his pieces?

Bad Marc Chagall copy-but if the same Greenberg,he seems to have changed his style.

    Chagall's 'Fiddler' for comparison.

The signature is in a juvenile hand so one would assume by a (very) young artist. The longest of long shots, of course, but... I don't think it inconceivable that one could go from that youthful representative painting to these abstract mixed media pieces, with talent and training.

Debora-2 Panels above nice, the yellow urethane almost looks like fused glass.Yep,young Mr. Greenberg could have painted Fiddler when he was a kid.Course there's many Greenbergs in the U.S.
Look at the way he used a film strip in the lower painting. If you really like an up and coming artist you might approach them directly, and depending on the contract with their gallery-but a few pieces from them and save the 40-60% markup (course you don't want them getting booted out of the gallery-can't hurt to ask).
