Featured Possible antique marble lined what? Italian?

Hi,

Can I get some help with this piece. It’s marble lined and appears to have some age to it. I see that it is veneer and I think the front work is called marquetry. What would this have been used for? Any idea on wood, age, origin etc? I had to load more photos underneath here because it would only allow 10. I wanted to make sure you had enough to help out with. I think it had legs or something. It’s very heavy. I don’t think it would have been long legs

Looks to me like a very fancy wash stand, with a lined compartment for a chamber pot.

That would be My guess as well. The marble lining would provide water proofing for the marquetry. Very wealth family.

 

A wine cooler is more likely. It would be tricky to get a po out of that.

 

My grandpa used to say "po" when he was in the hospital and now I know what the hell he meant !

 

We use the same word in Dutch. Finally something in common!

As opposed to Gazumping? Now there's some British terms I have never heard before , and that's saying something as both mu Grandparents were English and I thought I had heard just about all of them...
