Featured oddball little oil

hi all

found this in a charity shop for very little (£3)

don't particularly like it at all, frame looks quite old though

1980s with an old frame ?

just found it a bit odd/interesting

would like to hear what you think its about if anything

two of the heads look like they have shaved heads, third looks like wearing a wig

and is that flowing brown background supposed to represent hair ?

very much doubt a known artist, maybe art student ?

any thought or insights appreciated

Looks a bit like it would hang on the wall in the old "Twilight Zone" tv series.

Well i like it, Charlie. I like odd things. I do think its maybe an art students work,or a gifted amateur. There is some skill there.

 

I could see an emo/gothy college age person putting that on their wall if they didn’t have to spend too much on it.

 

Moody and dramatic. (The guy hovering over the two women looks like young Marlon Brando to me, LOL.) A stormy love triangle.

Other than my goofy stream of consciousness impressions, I know nothing else about painting.

 

Have you removed the cardboard to look at the actual canvas? Seeing the canvas back can possibly help date it. At first glance, based upon the frame & paint condition I am thinking this is 1884 and not 1984, but I am by no means an art guy. Possibly a smoker given the yellowing of the string on the back, and if that is the case, the colors may be muted because of staining. Looking at it, I have the impression it is 3 moody women...lol Love to see the canvas frame....

 

The styles of both the painting and the hairdo are late 20th century, not late 19th.

Looks like an amateur artist's painting, and I like it too.

 

1984 -- 38 years ago, but the frame looks older. Or a newer frame emulating an old look -- and treated badly. The painting does look like it needs cleaning.
