Ornate Brass Spoon

Hi

I have this lovely looking brass spoon that would be great for ice cream scooping.

It has a wooden handle, and is very ornate and solid.

No makers markings.

I can't find similar. Any ideas on purpose, age, origin etc. please?

Indonesian produces a lot of bronze with wooden handles. I have not seen that style .

The bowl of the spoon has been poorly acid etched.

The shape is that of a potato spoon. My favourite spoon as a child, because with those cheeks it looked like it was always smiling. A happy spoon.

I have to say, it looks like it could be (water)buffalo horn. Either way, it needs a bit of TLC.

 

The thickness of the bowl shown at the rim, along with the graininess of the pattern, tell me it was cast, perhaps in sand. I don't see evidence of acid etching...bicbw.
