    the mark is read Huang Jin Zhi it means like sort of gold rules if i'm not wrong,the figure is budai or laughing buddha or xiao fo,usually was associated with happiness and prosperous in this case maybe the gold :angelic:

    Characters read Huang Jin Dai (黄金袋)--- “Bag of Gold.” Auspicious good fortune little statuette, lacquered. From the broken corner looks like might be wood (photo not very clear... if in hand you can tell it's clay/pottery, probably is, however, resin is more like it... and lacquer on clay is not common... can't recall ever seeing lacquer on clay... just thinking out loud... lacquer is usually applied on wood... resin imitates it well...)

    thanks for the info, lacquer might have been what i was smelling, base material is white underneath,

    its been put in my reject section along with most of my other chinese foolery !(growing)

    If it is resin, it is solid and very heavy, if it is wood, it is light, if it is pottery, it would be hollow and and opening at base.

    The 3 characters on the Buddha being "bag for yellow gold"
