Welcome to the Forum, Misliss! :)
Your photo is fine. You can add one of the back, and if it’s signed a close-up.

    Welcome, Melissa!

We don't really do "valuations" here although we can point folks to the best places to look for comparable items which have sold.

Your portrait appears to have lost some paint where the cracks are which will negatively affect what someone might pay. Is there a signature anywhere? You did will getting the one picture up so can you post one of the back?

That's in pretty rough condition. What part of the country did you find it in?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi and WELCOME to Antiquers, Melissa!! I'm thinking I MAY be seeing a VERY FAINT signature on the front of the canvas......follow the bottom of the V-neckline to the right and what I think I found IS hard to see.....I saturated and contrasted the colors.....some different colors will also show darks better against them, which is why I played with the colors......What I THOUGHT was an A, I now think is a "B" along with numerous letters after.....either 'u' or 'm' and am not really sure of the rest, but I do think it COULD be a signature.......I also know canvasses were reused as well, so could possibly be old under-painting. If you are pretty positive it's an oil painting a little real spit on a q-tip and gently wiping may reveal some more clearly, but be sure and go gently!!!! Or ask someone!!!! If you have more questions about it or getting more images up, feel free to ask anyone....someone will be bound to be able to help!!!!!:):) Oops.....Duuuh....it would help if I posted what I did!!!!!

    Welcome to the forum, Melissa.
Nice painting of a lovely lady, there is something fiesty in her face. But sadly it has condition issues, which affects the value badly.
If I were to find the painting here in Europe I would think the sitter was Mediterranean, possibly Gypsy, rather than African American. Where I live I regularly see Moroccan ladies with similar looks.

I would assume that, as the work came from a Black Americana collection, it is a work of Black Americana. And the bandana, although not exclusive to the U.S., is a powerful American symbol.
