I am sorry for posting a lot but I believe it is how we learn more and help more
I was offered this really shiny oil lamp for 500usd.It says,Matador in both english and Russian letters as well as Rossia B.J.D in Russian letters.the seller says,it is old Russian oil lamp but another people(who are also familiar with antiques) told me it is marriage and the gold faces were added later
    Any Idea ?

On the photos the gilding seems to be the same on the faces and the other details.
It looks like the leaves/feathers on top of the heads should be supporting a shade. Which I imagine would be frosted, cut/engraved glass.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I am not an expert, but the gold faces look too large for the rest of the lamp. Maybe that is the way it was supposed to look, but I would hope that is not the case.

Matador Brenner is a manufacturer of center draft burners, not lamps. They are of good quality, I might add.

Like AJ, immediate reaction was that it seemed to be missing a glass shade. Seems to be be too ornate of a base not to have one. Either a globe type or one that would be suspended on a tripod ring shade holder that would fit on the burner.

The 'crown' around the top of the oil container also looks like there should be a shade resting on it.

For that price it should have its shade, no doubt frosted or engraved as Any Jewelry noted.

Thank you for all your kind advices and ideas-I appreciate it A LOT.My suspicion was about
1.It mentioned Berlin on the burner(on that thing that turns light up and down) while it said Russia (in russian letters)in the font cap
    2.Shade is obviously very new
3.Gold faces look too polished and over-scaled compared to lamp fond(body)which made me think that they could have been "added" in order to "noble" it
Yes,unfortunately it is very difficult to get a real antique thing(even for good money) and get rid of the risk of fake

you could still buy Matador-Brenner, that's not the problem here.

the more critical is the mix of languages on it. this is normally a sign of Russian copies - including the German names - after 1945.
a bit like all the motorcycle copies (Ural/Dnepr etc.) from older BMW and DKW models.
IMO another made-up thing, gold spray-painted, not antique.

After reading other answers, I give my opinion on this lamp, something doesn't be right, out of the "gilding" which looks like special metal painting more than gilding on the pictures, there is something bizarre because as said by any jewelry, it's always used with a shade and even with a complicated system with glass and shade to give the better results, shade for me is a ball on this lamp but they are no marks of this on the palms.

Thank you.I gave this lamp a pass.It is shame when fakers try to make-up things and then force you to buy and if you don't then they call you snob.I wonder if there are fakes in your part of the world too.I am off to Prague soon,I hope I will find some genuine stuff there.Terribly disappointed by fakers :(

Now this is a new face in the antique markets, there is the "everything seller", it comes from various others professions , know about nothing on history, and sells about everything which he suppose can make profit, they buy their "antiques" on paper catalogs, you can't have them on the net, and they suppose it's like selling shoes or clothes, just to say it's old and you pay…
Going in England since the 90's, it was a paradise and now (as you can see it on the BBC) they are selling copies as well as good material.
Now the good sellers are only working with a limited customers in place of a wide range of visitors in the past and good things are sold in auctions in place of direct selling, this is a pity but it's what a majority want…:bag:
