Perhaps someone knows where and/or when it might have been made - deep ruby red - 4 petal opening, 8" wide at the widest, about 6 1/2" tall. Distinctive pontil scar- not sure how to describe - it has almost a sandy pebbly / sand-papery surface. Thanks once again for your time!

Not sure, but maybe take a look at Anchor Hocking Royal Ruby Ruffled Vases.
I see some on eboo with similar looks but not sure they are the same as yours.

Thanks again Pearls - I think I saw some of those too. They are smaller, and differenty shaped, and I'm pretty sure this isn't anchor hocking but the color isn't far off. Can't rule it out completely.

Yep - smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S7. The camera is definitely the best I've had on any cell phone. The most important thing though is good lighting - lots and lots of light - otherwise smartphone cameras will kick into high ISO to compensate, which makes everything blurry/grainy.

Also good use of and editing program/features can make a picture work better. Practice really does help as the photographer is more important than the camera.
