@giulissa just reminded me of this scene from the wonderful Aussie cult movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", the silver shoe on top of Priscilla (the bus): Anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, watch! This is an order!
YIKES! They didn't do this when I lived in Key West in the 1980s! (Edit: I just googled and, indeed, this tradition didn't start until 1996.) What wacky fun, I'd like to see that!
@i need help Years ago I found a book on the original designer of these shoe chairs - he was Greek, I believe - but he was mostly known for sleek modular formica furniture in the 80s, which is why I picked up the book in the first place. I showed it to a friend who had a shoe chair in his Mid-Century store in SF, and was shocked to find he'd given my book to the buyer!! Anything for a sale SO... can't dredge it up at the moment, but there actually was someone who was credited with the original concept!!
Brad, you might have better luck now, these shoe chairs are making a comeback. Google "High Heel Shoe Chair". Wayfair and other stores are selling updated versions. Just this past year, I read that women who have giant walk in closets are in love with these chairs.
