Just researching 1850 Era Native American Jewelery

The ancestors of present day Native Americans were already making jewellery long before entering North America. They didn't forget until tourists reminded them many centuries later, but they kept making jewellery and evolving new techniques and styles. There is even evidence of pre-Columbian North American metal jewellery.

I guess it was the stones and bead work it looked like old silver even though I know most beautiful Native American Jewelery had blue stones, at the time not very knowledgeable :0 ..still learning

there is no telling how old it is. So..in all actuality ...Well if they are still being made they must be selling somewhere . I know I really like this kind of mother Earth hippieish

 

We're all still learning, & will be until our brains give out. Part of how we figure out what things are is by determining what they are not.

Well bedarned. I've wondered for years if carnelian had some sort of Islamic religious importance, but could never find out if I was right. No one ever knew for sure. And there it is. From @Any Jewelry of course.

 

It is said to have been the stone in the prophet Muhammad's signet ring, which is why it has become a symbolic stone. His carnelian is said to have been a red Yemeni carnelian, highly prized in the Muslim world.
The term used for these signet carnelians is aqiq or akeek, you may have come across the word.

 

Nope, but I did find a really old pin with the Daylight Sura engraved on a piece of carnelian once. Sold it years ago and lost the pix in a hard drive crash, most likely. I'd imagine cherry amber and cherry amber bakelite are popular for similar reasons. Whenever I sell those they always seem to end up in an Islamic country or with someone with a Muslim name.
