Initials of rather obvious R M are the best I can do.

 

You are proving my point about his pipe.

 

Another in the "old man with pipe" genre but rather sketchily done. Don't think it's terribly old. A photograph of the painting's back and frame would be helpful.

His pink ear, green hat and cravat, wee pipe, stunted hands ... I suspect this is an amateur artist and can't see any age, quality or value particularly. But then I am so often wrong ...

 

It reminds me of the fisherman paintings that I believe have Italian origins.

 

Well a search following that tip did result in a plausible explanation for his so-called hat. The ones with these hats seem to be labeled "Neapolitan".

 

My vote goes to pipe........but NO guess as to the artist......

and what he has on his head has nothing to do with a Napolitean or Sard fisherman hat. it's a Zipfelkappe.
