Hey, guys. Just wanted to show off some of my older tools collection. 98% of these tools belonged to my great-grandfather; a few others belonged to my grandfather on mom's side, a couple belonged to my grandfather on dad's side; and there are a couple that are not from the family but made it on the display anyway because they're old and I like them. :)

I built the wooden display to hold the majority of the tools and my girlfriend said it was going to look really good in the garage.....I hung it in my living room. HAHAHA She now refuses to sit on the part of the couch directly underneath the tools because it's a "death trap". :joyful::joyful::joyful:

Anyway, hope ya'll enjoy. And if there is anything ya'll want a more close up picture of, just let me know.

    Thanks!!

I think that's a wonderful way to display a collection (although I agree with your girlfriend about seating.)

    Thanks!!!

Girls tend to be concerned all the time about their personal safety...and how they look....it's so cute. :D

I assume you're talking about the silver colored thing that's mounted vertically? That gets asked about the most out of everything on this display!! Guess 'cause it's so big and more brightly colored than anything else. Haha It's a tile cutter. I actually have another one just like this one, but twice the size....it was a little TOO big to display. Haha

It's a terrific display! Did you use barn boards?

What is that large tool in the first photo? There was one kicking around my grandfather's house and now I'm wondering what became of it.

It's wood off of an old picnic table that I refurbished a couple years ago. Kept the old wood around and I'm very, very glad that I did!!!

I believe it's a weed chopper/sickle/idiot stick. It's not really thick enough to chop trees, so I believe this would be used to cut things like Sunflower stocks, Johnsongrass, Muskthistle....stuff like that. But don't quote me on that. lol

Next to it, however, is a 1966 Tru Temper Model TB2 hewing ax. Bought myself a very powerful magnet and tied it to rope and the very first throw off a dock at a local lake retrieved this ax head. Couldn't believe it! Cleaned it up a bit and hung it on a new hickory handle and then steam bent the handle to make it like a true hewing ax handle would be. Really proud of that piece!

Here is where the wood came from. And, of course, how the table turned out. :)

Nice rustic look. I dig it. Is that a can of Mosquito repellent on the bottom of the main display?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Top image......that’s called a brush or hewing axe......DH just happened to have one in the garage with a partially readable sticker on it.....but google has vintage images as well.....ours posted below......and I have NO idea why I can’t get the label to load.......GRRRRRR......desktop Computer is back in shop for some glitches and I HATE SWITCHING between my iPad and DH’s computer (which I CAN do more on......WHEN HE’S NOT ON IT).....anyway, ours says KELLY on the label in large print and along the border it says...(I think)...in smaller print....TREE K???ER.....can’t make out any more......

BTW, @itsanss WELCOME, and it’s a VERY NEATLY laid out collection!!!

    Nice display, itsanss.
    Yo're putting it mildly, Jivvy.;)
I too would be a bit concerned of how I would look, and especially feel, if I had an axe sticking out of my head and part of my brain oozing out. But that's probably just me being 'cute'.

    Aquitaine,

Wow! Thanks for the info on the brand and the name. Discovered many like mine by typing "Kelly Brush Axe". Now I will have more to tell people if/when they ask about that particular piece!

I know what you mean about not having a desktop. Lot of people say that handhelds will replace desktops....they may replace a bunch, but I will never not have a desktop!!!

    Judy,

Thanks. The table was pretty much unusable as it was. A family friend had gone back and completed a college degree after almost two decades of abandoning it so we threw her a graduation party and I knew we would need some extra seating for guests as this was an outdoor event/BBQ. So the picnic table got some TLC and was by far the most popular place to sit during the party! :) Now it sits under a tree at my rental property and I've seen tenants actually using it on nicer weather days.

    Hi,
Nice display!!! Check your mosquito repellent and make sure it is empty or all most. My FIL had one for years and his suddenly exploded. His contained a lot of banned chemicals in it. Thank goodness it was in the basement in a cardboard box which destroyed everything in the box. He is a complete hoarder, When he moved down here he brought all of his "treasures" with him. Cans of house paint he had not used since 1971 and other stuff. When we were helping him move I found a fishing tackle box wrapped in 1967 newspapers. He said " I have been looking for that box I needed some tackle out of it." It contained two rusted fishing hooks. The man even had all of the notes he was given when he went to Tokyo on R&R weekend in 1953. He also had three silk shirts made that weekend in a box, never ever worn.:eek::eek::eek:

I'm unsure how my reply got embedded in the quote.

    My apologies for the error.

Having recently watched an episode of one of our medical shows in which a patient entered the Emergency Room with a pipe through his head...and another where the patient ran a knife into his ear...and yet another which featured a gentleman who had managed to run a steel fence pole through his mouth and out the back of his head -- I wouldn't go in the OP's House!

That "Off" mosquito spray can brought back a lot of memories of a childhood in Florida.
Love the display! I expect the Chinese to copy it and to be hitting the discount shelves soon.
