    Hi,
I bought this many years ago at a flea market. It has been stored in a bin with a lot of books. I do not remember putting it in there.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:. It is a French wine seller or bottle collector??????. I am inclosing some photos. It is 10" high and about 7" wide and 2" thick. I was going to touch up the paint but then thought it might be better to leave it alone. It is either plaster or some sort of wood composite.

It looks like a "take" albeit a "bad" take (hair, head, face gender-wise) on Marilyn Monroe standing over a street grate with air blowing up her dress.

To me it looks like a craftsman in an apron holding two bunches of 'something'. If we only knew what the bunches of 'something' are.:playful:

To me it looks like a Carnival man at one of the toss booths.

  7. Jivvy

Jivvy the research is my favorite

Do we know that they're bottles or is that just a guess? I can't tell.

My first thought was juggler, but he'd have to be The Best Juggler Ever with that many clubs.

(that's a lie, my first thought was the same as @yourturntoloveit )

Then I thought maybe a pin setter for some form of bowling.

    But I don't think that's right, either.

Looks similar to these Santons Marcel Carbonel? Just a guess, could be way off. :)

This guy is wood. Santons are ceramic, at least those by Carbonel are. All the ones I have had and have seen are.

You were very near of the solve, Greg!
I'd leave him as is, collectors of old advertisement stuff prefer in good condition and, if not, untouched;)

    M. Nicholas is welcome to unburden himself of all of those (full) bottles at any number of houses. I'm betting as an old alcohol advertising piece he'd sell handily despite being a bit banged up.

    Hi Kyra,
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! That is what it is. Do you have any idea how old it is? My French is terrible I can read some German and Danish. I must have gotten this in the 1960s. I have always wanted to know who it was.

If I had to guess, I'd say the figure was from the 1920s if that link is accurate. The image was introduced in 1922 according to the article and redone in 1950. The gesso over wood construction almost has to be pre-WWII.

I agree with evelyb30, for her dating, I'm not old enough to have seen Nectar in wood and gesso:bucktooth:
