Yixing Teapot

Obviously not an old one but has someone seen this marks before?

 

I've listed the pot with starting price $33. Have a bid right away.Got one offer for $100 , and another a bit later for $950. I kind of think maybe the last one is a typo. Maybe I should confirm with the buyer. Already 10 watchers an hours after listing.
While I am writing, someone bid to a $100.
What is going on?

Hm, how do they know. Very few Chinese can read seals. And there are very few online sources with marks on Yixing ware. Maybe they have access to books in Chinese.
I asked the Taiwanese guy who runs a forum for Antique Chinese porcelain and he had no clue. He is very good at porcelain but not with redware.
Maybe I should wait a bit with the auction before accept offers.
Well, there are already bids and I guess Ebay won't like cancelling.

 

My advice is to just let it play out till the end. Even some of the newer teapots are sought after because of the artist who made them. The last one I sold was not all that old & I got over $1200 for it.

Chances are if you are getting offers they know something & are looking to buy it for resale.

You know how many yixing pots I've passed because they look new to me.
It is quite of a mystery to tell which one are the valuable ones.

I never take offers on auctions. 99.9999% of the time it is someone who knows what you got & knows they can turn it, most likely on ebay, for a very handsome profit. You thank them sweetly for their offer & their interest in your item, then tell them you hope their user ID is at the top of the list at the end of the auction. I have yet to have any of them even bid on the item.

 

Guess that is knowing them, which I don't I see many going for very little but probably better odds than the lottery

 

That makes sense when you know you have a $400 vase and get offers of $40.

Here the seller is not sure of it's value, & while the $100 offer should be cast aside , don't tell me that $950 would not already be a ' very handsome profit ' , to walk away with.
You have to always weigh the pro's & con's ....and while the tea pot may indeed fetch more than the $950....that's what's called a bird in the hand !

& if it goes for $600....I'm sure Kard will be happy.....but not as happy !

 

it is already well on it's way to $900.

I dug out a pot that I had for quite a while. But it is missing the lid and the glaze looks kind of contemporary to me.
