Does anyone know the age of this planter pot that I assume is from Mexico? And where it might be from in Mexico? Any info at all would be great. I’ve found a few similar pics, but the internet seems to be an info black hole when it comes to these figural pots.

I wonder if it's supposed to be a llama.

Actually, I can't tell, does it have ears and horns or just ears?

Oh gosh, maybe that’s why I’m not getting many hits. I’ll try that, thanks!

    Ears and horns :)

I actually searched using llama and I hit on sites that didn’t come up before and they weren’t all for llamas, most of the new hits were for goats!

Llamas don't have horns, and their ears point forward, and slightly inward, so I think you can eliminate that possibility!

Alpacas don't have horns, either. I think you're looking at a goat here.

    Thanks!

I hadn’t seen the first, which they describe as, “Mexican rustic terracotta clay vintage pot with a soft wear, has a drainage hole, the measures are 37 cm high, 25 cm wide.”

And disregarded Pinterest all together because of the lack of text and info.

Darn that drainage hole. At least it only has 3 legs, which it seems is a bit less contemporary in planters, definitely more unique.

    Do wasps reuse old nests?

I kind of like the character it adds, but I’m thinking I should try to remove it. There’s one on the inside too.

It is a planter is NEEDS a drainage hole!
NOW you mention that stuff on the head is a wasp nest? If you are going to try & sell it. . .well, nobody wants an old wasp nest included. :banghead:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I think removing the nests would be a great idea. Having goats as pets is a popular thing nowadays, at least in the US. So you could probably sell it if so inclined. If you're going to keep it, enjoy!

    Okay, so I guess it’s a plus :)

“Control of these insects is not warranted since they normally pose little threat. Rather, mud daubers should be regarded as beneficial since they remove and use as prey many species of spiders which most people find disagreeable.“

Now I remember how I was curious about a nice bowl at a souvenir shop in Oaxacan coast. The seller gave it to my hands and claimed that it costed a whopping 1000 pesos or so. I asked him about the wasp nest that I found inside - without changing the expression of his face he said, I can clean it for free for you. I ran from that store :)

For whatever reason I've had a hard time making out details on your pot. Now that I see the horns and ears, I'm wondering if one horn is damaged. It sure seems to be in one photo (but not obvious in another).

And I don't know what that is supposed to be on the side but I swear I keep seeing a sunfish.

Wasps avoid areas where there are old nests....they do not reuse them..
