Anyone has any idea about this weapon? Thanks!

My father was a dredging inspector when he was young. This weapon was put in my home for many years and I was told it was salvaged near the seashore where was bombed by aircraft from the USS Enterprise in January 1945. I wonder if it's kind of weapon would be used in air raid because I don't have much knowledge about military. Thanks!
(It had been spray painted before and it is peeling paint now)

I suggest you look towards a Japanese mortar.....81 mm , Type 100....
you don't give the size so I can not be accurate ...

It is certainly an empty mortar shell but agree with other posters, size not known due to lack of dimensions. Fin design points to Japanese.

With so many folks pointing towards it being a Japanese Mortar....& many others commenting on the lack of dimensions ....& what with all the photo's to back up everyone's assertions....it would indeed be hard to single out just one member by name for a contribution that you heartily agree with !

& spelling Komo can indeed be such a hardship !

Sometimes...in the heat of the moment...one can bring up phrases so ingrained in the time of our youth.....they roll off the tongue as if it's the only comment available !!
