I just wanted to share this photo of a federal setup I put together. No one on my Instagram really knows what they’re looking at, and being really new to collecting in general, I don’t have anyone to share this stuff with.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi Jimi and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! Love your fan back Windsor side chairs, dresser AND the rug, although (and not a negative!) from what I can see the rug looks to be machine stitch braided, not hand braided! Trying to buy a hand braided rug of that size today, I think might be fairly pricey!!

  5. Yeah, I agree. The rug belonged to my Nana, I got it by chance. But it works perfect here.

No, isnt. Side tables or tea tables yes but no on very low coffee tables. I think coffee tables are a 20th century form.

Fan back windsor side chairs with bamboo turnings & inlaid tall chest of drawers. Are they period? I dunno, can't tell from photos provided but in the Federal style though.

    Welcome to the forum, JH.
I think early 20th century. I have a Dutch Amsterdamse School one, 1910s. That would be one of the early ones. I believe it caught on slightly later across the pond.

The Dutch really needed a coffee table, they are in the top 5 of coffee drinking nations. The US are in the top 30, the Brits are only just in the top 50.
Most Dutch claim they can't function without coffee. I regularly come across those who can't function with it either.:playful:

Yep, I am in that group as well, drinking it now, on cup 3 or 4 of a 12 cup pot of coffee that will be gone shortly! I drink 12 cups of french roast coffee every morning for past 30 years or so, i'd be in trouble without it!

So you really need a coffee table as well.:D Pity there aren't any early American ones to go with your other early beauties.:)

No coffee tables in the U.S. until around WWII plus or minus. Some Victorian-era tables were cut down for that purpose in the mid 20th century, leading people to think that the Victorians invented coffee tables. Not so.

Don't see a lot of abstract art in the Federal period, either :) :) (teasing).

Very nice setup you've got there. Love it! Welcome to the boards Jimi!

    Lovely, Jim.

When I opened the picture I just had a sense of happiness looking at your set up. Nice pieces, beautifully displayed. The rug is perfect. Love how the natural light shows off the richness of the wood.

  20. Thanks a lot.

I didn’t really have any vision in my head. I just got my hands on some pieces that I liked on their individual character alone. Obviously if you put like period items next to each other, it makes sense, but there is a certain artistic value in placement and everything.

I have some more pieces. Maybe I’ll post later if I get a chance.
