There is a Biblical, Jesus & disciples feel to it, but I don't think it is. More like a gathering of philosophers. The painting, which is undoubtedly not called Italian Villas, contains what are meant to be clues to the identity of it all: the obelisk; the sculpture off to the right (can we can a closer pic of that?); the urn with the relief figures on it; whatever the transaction is between the seated man & the standing woman(?); possibly the swans. Alexandria is what comes into my mind first. [See rethink below.]

The number of women in the scene is notable. One giving or receiving something from the seated man. One going about the ordinary task of getting water. And one semi-reclining on a rock off to the left who is hailing the youthful figure in the foreground? Most of the men look quite mature except for that one. (One of the features that gives it a Biblical feel.) It would not be surprising if the role of the women is to tend to the men: the woman at the fountain may be getting water for one of them; what I called the transaction could be the woman giving dates to the man.

I'm just thinking out loud to see if anything comes to me or proves useful to someone else. Have to let it percolate in my brain.

Giovanni Paolo Panini did a number of paintings something like this, but seems to have focused on the buildings, not people or trees.

Swans are associated with Apollo, who is associated with the arts, intellectual pursuits & cultural refinement generally.
