After reading all the Mexican stone comments I pulled an old definitely Mexican stone and brass box that I’ve never been able to identify. No stamping. What is this stone? E041B637-243E-4F7E-803F-D6A54D24B985.jpeg

It's what geologists would call a rock: a mix of different minerals. Some of it is probably malachite. Could you back off & take a photo of a broader section & try to minimize glare?

That’s been workin’ for me for at least 20 years lol! I’ll go take some more pics now but that photo is really what it looks like. No idea here either but it’s a great old box.

Thanks all. That makes sense to me Hollyblue. Definitely a lot of stuff in a matrix. 0B3A8DC5-1218-4B2A-AA01-CDCD489A20CC.jpeg

Definitely a tossed salad of stuff. Brightening up the colors a little:

I call that material RPR - random pretty rock. The Indians do similar things - random bits of chrysocolla variants in a matrix that may be natural and may not. It does its job and acts like a box. Cigarette box maybe?

I think too large. I guess maybe cigars-wood lined and at least 18” across but I’m not home now. Thumbs up on RPR!
