To clean that filigree work, Nevr-dull cotton wadding silver polish works great since there is no white stuff to leave as residue.

Wow, loving all this! Nice haul, Evelyn and Sharonna. I love the ivory- Evelyn, is that pin on the right with the oval stone gold-filled? Sharonna, is the red-stone necklace sterling? I learn a lot on this site, I am still drawn to looking for jewelry, though....
I found the first four pins at a yard sale. Thought they were new costume because they are all identical, but they are marked sterling on the backs and the stones test as ruby, sapphire, and spinel, and I can't remember the last....$1 each. One has a bad pin back repair.

The next is an antique mall find. I saw if a few weeks ago, loved it, but didn't want to spend $28. I went back and got it today. Found out it is satin? peacock glass.

I found an antique shop. It is in a guy's garage. Although this is beat up, it is a sterling Trifari fur clips from 1947 (looked patent up last night.) $4.

Nuff said, after you go through the costume, maybe you could set up a table at a friend's yard sale. You'd be surprised how much it could fetch!

Decent day today. A huge amber brooch with Polish hallmarks for a dollar fifty. I stack of hallmarked silver jools for about 50 dollars. Mostly keepers. Oops. Two HUGE pairs of clip earrings, signed P&M Paris and Attire, a dollar fifty, and a rather pretty art glass and copper bracelet, same amount. Lots of other stuff, mostly weird. ;)

    Hi,
I swear I am going to start really looking at jewelery. I know I have found some good pieces thanks to photos in the old ebay jewelery board. A couple of cameos cheap since the owners thought they were junk. My favorite was a JKL tree of life pin with the most gorgeous peridot colored stones.

Bear, is that a genuine Tiffany bracelet? Either way, I would be wearing that! I like the pearl earrings. Greg, it never hurts to look at everything!

If it's not genuine, it's a damn good fake. The earrings will be kept: I've no holes in my ears, so good clips are always welcome. And the amber brooch is most certainly staying in my hoard. As is the blingy silver bracelet. Mine, my precious. ;)

I picked up about 80 pounds of pewter today. Almost all is from the 1940s to 1970s.

This Nekrosoff tray is unsigned and corroded on top. Was there a simple way to clean?

This Reed and Barton muffineer is probably the only saleable piece.

    Love the muffineer. ;)

Dumb question for you, Terry, but . . . do all muffineers have different shapes for their holes (I see yours has some round holes and some diamond-shaped holes although they are in "separate" areas)?

I don't know the significance of them. It seems like about 5% of sugar shakers have multiple hole sizes.

    Hi Terry,
Most everything you use to clean pewter will cause color change. I would do the cheap olive oil soak for a week or so. If you want a fast clean use a good silver polish and do the whole thing. After a while it will start to darken a bit. Be sure to really wash it in hot soapy water first. If you get a bit of grit remaining it will scratch the hell out of the pewter. Also use a very soft clean cloth, no scrubbies or anything.

Bought the book shown below at a church charity sale Saturday. Everything was clearly marked price-wise, and I was given a large grocery bag at the door and told that everything you could fit in the bag would be a total of $10.00. I was very happy with that and then, lo and behold, while standing in the checkout line with my bag filled to the brim with 9 books and 5 household items, they announced a bag would be $1.00, which is what I paid. The book I am most pleased with (see below) thus cost me less than 8 cents ($.08).

It is an Olney Hymns book, published in 1855 by T. Nelson and Sons, London: Edinburgh: and New York, 348 numbered pages including the index.

Well, I actually did a rare thing and bought something at a b and m store yesterday. 20% off sale, so I had to look. But DH wasn't so sure except that I said that the granddaughters would like it and it was Mother's Day. He had to give in. The shop owner said that it was at least 40 years old. I dunno, must've been in a weird mood, but it appealed to me. Balinese?
