Featured ebay sellers - have you ever sold junk drawer lots, and/or mystery boxes?

Buying a pig in a poke wouldn't be for me! (or trying to sell one either)

 

I haven't done it but see plenty of them. On etsy the mystery ones are not allowed tho some still do it. But there are junk drawer listings where you can see what you will get and decide if it is for you.
I was thinking of doing this with some old kitchen utensils that I have picked up here and there. But I am still deciding.

 

Holy Moley. I wonder if any of those items were worth the price alone. I know nothing about many of the items. Could a doll like that be worth it?

OMG, I just saw that song flute. I had such a similar one in grade school where they tried to teach us music. wow that takes me back.

 

Of course, ebay doesn't allow one to link completeds anymore. I found one that sold for $185. No point in linking the one I found.

But most do not bring anywhere close to that.

The doll is the only thing I see that's even close to being worth the selling price tho. The rest looks like real junk.

 

That seller make out like a bandit. Lucky them.

As far as the junk drawer lots I have thought of doing it also. In fact I had a small container I had been collecting stuff in to do just that, but I got on a clean out tear a few months back & took it to the auction house to sell.

If you decide to it let us know so we can see how it goes for you.

 

Book was able to link the completed above. Not sure what the trick is, seems to sometimes work okay.

Yes agree with Judy, probably the doll brought the lot up.

Also was hoping the "closing of the store" was a good thing.

Interesting about these lots. Would not be for me what with returns, etc.

I did!. I had lots of bits and pieces- coins, brass bits, old photos, knick knacks etc that made quite a nice lot and sold well.
I will buy a lot like that if there was something in it I wanted and then resell the rest........hence I'm stuck in the 'buy junk, filter out the good bits and sell the rest' cycle. I think it's definitely worth doing.

 

I agree with Mike the lighter is interesting although probably Japan.
Also, I'd be curious about the compact and purses.

Overall, if a dealer bought this they probably could make money back plus a smidgen more.
Sometimes I buy lots like this, because there is one thing I want for my collection and I know I can at least get my money back.
I counted about 15 items, selling at $10-20 it would be a little more than a wash.

 

I've never done a junk drawer lot, but I have done harvest/repair lots. I look at junk drawer lots sometimes, but I never seem to find any to tempt me.

 

I buy shelf/box/table lots at the auction all the time. However I get to actually check out each thing in that case. My general rule is I have to be able to at the very least double my money by selling no less than 2 to 4 items depending on the size of the lot. Sometimes I do much better as you will see later when I post on the finds thread.

I do actively search for perfume bottles that sellers have grouped together. I have gotten some very nice bottles & the rest go to the auction house to be sold as a box lot.

I have never bought a junk drawer lot on ebay, but I wouldn't be adverse to it if I saw something with potential. I am sure this is the strategy of lots of sellers out there who maybe have a hard time getting stuff for their booths or to resell on eBay as individual items.

God knows, as I am surrounded by stuff right now, I do not have that problem.

 

Yes, the Betsy McCall doll from the 5o's ' 6o's would be what was the big seller .. all original, still in the box, VERY NICE !!! ... Joy.
