Are these beads likely to be carnelian or just glass? Cheapy clasp so I’m thinking 50/60s?
    Thankyou :)

Nice bib! It seems there are swirls in the color, this is the clue for glass:)
Carnelian, if uneven color, shows neat bands.

If the captured color in the pics is in reality this « pinkish », this points too toward glass.
Carnelian is more on the orange red hue.:cyclops:

I'm not bothered by swirls vs. layers; carnelian does not always occur as part of an agate. It is that pinkish, cranberry color I find inconsistent.

The 3 stones on the bottom would all be considered carnelian:

Here’s a photo under natural light which is a fair representation of the colour.
Excuse the hands, I hate seeing hands in photos! 8DE1566B-3C7E-40BC-8902-CC9A65C7BE9C.jpeg

Too funny! I hate seeing (disembodied) hands in photos too. But even worse is chipped nail polish.

They are still a blue red, rather than a yellow red. Other beads/crystals used are glass. Most of the time you don't see modern pieces use a mix of stone & glass, although common enough back when glass itself was precious.

Thankyou. That's great and makes complete sense. So would this be 50's ish or later?

    Glad I'm not alone!.
Why people think that holding a piece of jewellery makes it easier to see I have no idea. And don't model the ladies rings, especially if you are male, have hairy arms and dirty finger nails!:vomit:. I find myself scrolling past those listings.

With the sorts of things I most often buy & occasionally sell, cameos & intaglios, unless you have a professional photography set up & know how to use it, sometimes the only way to capture fine details & faintly scratched signatures is to get the piece just so to the light, and, if you don't want to spend most of a day figuring out how to do this some other way, the quickest, most effective method is to take a 'hand shot'. I find some of the exotic nail treatments I see nearly as unappealing as dirty/ragged fingernails on parade.

I would guess late 50s, 'guess' being the operative word.

Agree there are some weird and wonderful nail varnishes out there.
My OH has a little contraption that's brilliant for holding things.

I've actually shocked myself when looking through a high mag. loupe and looked at my own nails!. That's why they will never be on show.

Mine too.:) I'll have to think of that next time I have to get up close and personal with a jewellery mark. (As you do. ;))
