Religious Medals

    I bought these two medals from the same vendor as the pietra dura pendant. They're pretty large (1.4 inches and 1.75 inches in diameter) and seem too heavy just to be simple religious pendants. They look old, but they're also in pretty good condition. I found others called Papal Medals, but I'm not sure if that's what these are.

    Both papal. Second is Leo 13th. They seem to each have their individual patron saints on the back: first one is Mary Immaculata, I think, second is Francis of Assissi.

    Thank you! Does papal just mean that they were commissioned in commemoration of the current pope, or were they awarded for something?

    They may be products of the Vatican mint. This is who did the medal of Leo:

    Yup, basically commemorative, possibly tourist. Still done.

    Exactly. It says Queen conceived without original sin & employs conventional symbolism for the Immaculate Conception:
