This one is from my grandmothers collection. Haven't even heard of Hull Pottery before today, so I guess I need a bit of a crash course.

So what I know already is that the H in circle or diamond is from before 1930, but can it be narrowed down further?
Are these things really worth like $150-250 each?

These lidded jars / canisters stand about 3.5" tall

Lehner's Encyclopedia of US marks has quite a few marks for Hull, but nothing like these. Where did your information come from?

yep thats probably one of the ebay image search results I picked up that clued me in on Hull to begin with.

There are a slew of these on pinterest labeled spice, rice, coffee, mustard, sugar, flour, ginger, etc. all of which are labeled hull pottery yellow ware.

my guess on the 'value' i've seen labeled on these listings is related to something i saw in a martha stewart video on yellow ware i watched. apparently 95% of all yellow ware is unmarked, no ID's, and the ones with marks on them are worth megabucks.

Lehner's does show a capital H in a circle like the one shown in the listing wiscbirddog attached and indicates that it is a very early mark. But in the text of their entry Lehner's specifically states "Hull did not use an H in a diamond."

Edit to add = "that mark (meaning the H in a diamond) was registered to Carrollton Pottery Carrollton Ohio."

well our sources are at odds then. the sprucecrafts link i posted definitely states that the early hull comes in both flavors of H in a circle and H in a diamond, while your states explicitly that it does not come in a diamond.
However every listing i've found on the internet of these canisters all labels them explictly as Hull regardless of circles, diamonds, squares, or X-marks-the spot, its all labeled Hull.

edit: I should also mention some of these listings I've found labeled Hull are also from Worthpoint, meaning they are sold, but unfortunately will not show the price realized. So unless there are some serious suckers buying mislabeled products, its probably accurate.

For collectors of this type of early kitchen (or utility) pottery the actual manufacturer is not of great interest. They are collecting based on age, color and motif. Still, even if just for giggles, Brenda Roberts shows the Diamond H and Circle H marks as Hull and shows pictures of the sugar jar, vinegar pitcher, pepper jar, and spice jar all in this motif on pg. 37 of her Hull Pottery book. The 1993 value of the spice jars was $45-$65. Seems a bit high to me but if someone is trying to collect the whole set they may be more than willing to pay those prices for their missing jars.

I found these in a 55 gallon barrel with about another 10 pieces all smashed up, some knuckleheads were cleaning out a deceased hoarders house and throwing everything into barrels for the dump.

Do you mean a Hull green wheat canister? You need to start a new thread with pictures of the item and bottom.
