I don't think "Imperial Roman" has any meaning for most people.

Deleting makes it shorter too. And I would say "less is more" in that it would be perfect then to attract everybody. 'Imperial Roman' (forgive me, Forum, for what I am about to say) strikes me as "Corinthian Leather" (if you are that old).

I wouldn't say anything in a title that implies an item is other than what it acually is. Even if the look fits what's said in the title, I'd at least add "Style" or "Facsimile" or something similar.

    @Pat P
If the title had said 'Imperial Roman Look Cameo Earrings', would that have been acceptable?

For a moment I thought the terms ended with Excludes tuxedo.

If they are ancient (?) I wouldn't say "look"

I'm lost - are they yours?

No, they're something currently for sale at 1,399 GBP, but seller is taking offers if you're interested.

I deliberately didn't suggest 'Imperial Roman style'. The question is really do they look like they could be what they are represented as being? I think the seller is sincerely convinced. Are you?

Oh, I didn't realize it was a live listing that's trying to say they're actually ancient earrings. To be honest, I don't know what Imperial Roman earrings looked like and haven't tried to research it. But these earring sure look like contemporary ones to me.

If they were the real deal, then there's no need to say "look" or "style."

Some people do use that term (broken links) for that shape. I noticed that distinctive horizontal bar vvv

Did Imperial Romans wear cameos like that (you'd know better than I)? If they were set with a simple stone, I'd be more convinced (bc I don't know about cameos as you do :))

I need one of those mustache things!

    The seller further represents:

Purchased by the current owner in 2011 in England, London from E.S a private collector, before that it was owned by a private collector.
    Provenance:
The Supplier warrants that he/she obtained this lot in a legal manner. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki.
    Important information.
The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot.

This is as much due diligence as most auction houses seem to do. Seller seems concerned about reassuring potential buyers that sale does not violate any kind of antiquity law.

    "England, London"? Odd syntax.

I have things that came from a private collector (my mother) that were owned previously by a private collector (her aunt). And even more things that my private collector mother bought from dealers who one could think of as a private collector or who purchased the items from private collectors.

That verbiage doesn't exactly mean very much in terms of age of an item or it's value.

Or am I just stating the obvious?

I can see an auction house describing such things as 'From the estate of a lady'. My other favorite is the use of 'estate' in a manner that is supposed to be synonymous with 'high quality'.

Not too long ago I notified an auction house that one of the handful of pieces they were offering from 'a respected East Coast collector', this one described as 19th century, looked very much like the work of someone actively working now. Their initial response was to protest about how respectable the consignor was; in the end they withdrew the lot & thanked me for tipping them off.

But they don't appear to be old. No due diligence there.

Like I said, these would be something you'd be qualified to judge, whether they're authentic, ancient, or you love them.

I'd pay that much if they were extremely distinctive - to me!
