Featured Cameo Earrings Quiz

If I wanted them for myself, believe me, I wouldn't have made it so easy for other people to find them.

Doesn't the person who makes a quiz usually know the answer? This was sort of an exercise/lesson I'm hoping will help members, if they're ever faced with the decision whether or not to buy a piece of cameo jewellery represented as Roman/Greek, in what to look for first: is it even possible the cameo is the age claimed?

 

I didn't realize these quizzes were a regular deal, so it was very disorienting to be the one asking you to date those humble cameos!

BTW, those earrings I posted are reproductions from the Victoria and Albert gift collection.

Apparently the problem here was that no one thought the answer could be something so obvious. I'm not sure how I gave the impression I own or am looking to buy it. I was expecting people would see it more as a What's Wrong with This Picture question & find it shocking/amusing & easy to answer.

 

When I saw this I assumed it was a learning experience, which I love! Nothing else!!!

 

This is the first time I've looked at this thread. My answer to the quiz is "Yes." Do I get an A+ on the quiz?

 

Every one gets an A+ for taking a look & sharing their thoughts so we can all learn from one another. Recognizing true antiquities is mostly above my pay grade. There are so many fakes, including fakes that are antique themselves, even experienced professionals in the field cannot always be confident of their judgement, particularly with only photos to go by. I never trust sellers' assertions in these matters. But. No one here should get taken in by a production such as the OP earrings.

talk about perspectives: I leave for a day and get back to see the length of this string... and all the while I thought it was just a 'marketing' question whether to describe the style or not... oy.

I'm a specialist to comment before reading, and appear lot of others already answered the question (if it was one)

 

I didn't know these quizzes were a regular deal either, and with my brain damage I am very easily disoriented. Most of the time I don't understand what people are saying to me, reading is becoming more difficult at an alarming rate, so disorientation is a general thing now. Writing is getting worse as well.
And if someone asks a question they already know the answer to, I have no idea how to assess that. If I know for certain that they know the answer, I think, just tell us. As I wrote before, being tagged for this confused me.
I am sorry Bronwen, I don't mean to be negative about your quiz, but at the moment I feel like I am struggling to be part of a forum I love and need.

Same here. I thought I was being tagged to help, which I did my best to do. I know Bronwen doesn't need help dating cameos, which is not my thing anyway, so I thought I would concentrate on things I know a little about.

From time to time I put what you might call mini-quizzes into the Cameo Show & Tell thread as a way to keep people engaged when none of us has anything to show or ask about. The one other time I put something like this on the wider Jewelry Forum, 'Cameo End of Semester Pop Quiz', it did not lead to all these misunderstandings & erroneous assumptions. I'll know not to do it again.

AJ, I'm sorry. I did not realize how much of a strain participation here has become for you as you are still so active & I see you respond to all kind of questions. I tagged you because I thought you would be in your element dissecting these earrings & explaining your conclusions to us. You did so, & we all thank you. I'm sorry it was not worthwhile for you. We all value what you put in to the forum in time, energy &, most of all, knowledge. We love you as a person; it pains all of us to know that this gets progressively more difficult & less enjoyable for you. Again, I apologize. Bronwen

 

Please don't apologize, it is not your fault, you weren't to know, and it is really my brain that is confusing me.
I have been coming here a little less than usual lately. But on the other hand I need all of you and the great atmosphere of the forum as a distraction, and to keep training my brain. I also find that looking at beautiful things soothes the brain. It all helps a lot, but there are glitches in being able to fathom things.
I hope you and the others will still tag me. Just not for quizzes, I am a bit too thick at the moment.
