I bought this little figure (5 inches) because I liked her but more importantly while I think she is jade, she has little monetary value or artistic significance. She is translucent where the stone has been cut thin, and does have some lovely ribbon like parts though. I would like to attempt to repair a small chip and some small nicks but if I mess up I haven't damaged something important. I haven't tried this before. Does anyone have any suggestions?
@KikoBlueEyes Do you have any experience working with jade/gemstones? It is not something you can jump into as jade is a tough stone.Can you get close up photos of the damage?
Not sure where it is broken in the photos... the tip of a "flower",the long line on the back of the pack? The photos don't have the right contrast to see what the damage is.
The tip of the flower is missing a small bit along the edge - see whitish edge. Under it is a Z shape whitish nick. I was thinking to polish these out, so they don't look so obvious. There are other tiny nicks. I think it would look better if you can't see the white anymore. I run across antique jade for sale with a small imperfections like this. I avoid it because I don't know anyone who can repair it. Even if I did, the cost would be prohibitive (I have had expensive experiences in the past.) I thought if I could practice on this small piece disguising these minor blemishes, I could entertain buying something that is beautiful but likewise damaged. If this is not reasonable, then I'll just donate it back.
