It doesn't look like a "French" painting to me. Looks more like the row of apartment buildings on the west side across from Central Park in Manhattan. The shop label would seem to support a NYC location.

Why do you think it is "French"?

[edit : I meant to type "east" above, but I am dyslexic lol]

I'm going to (respectfully) disagree. Those appear to be mansard roofs. And the buildings around Central Park are taller (and have always been.) From other works found on the internet sold by Mrs. Ernest M. Weber, one can ascertain she did indeed deal in French art.

16 East 98th Street in Carnegie Hill. A bit high but on the park.

I must defer to your knowledge of French mansard style roofs, Debora. I didn't realize those are mansard roofs in the painting.

Still just all looks like fantasy art to me though.

Looks like Mrs. Ernest M. Weber also sold trophies.

The second label is a museum label -- The Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, now the Columbus Museum of Art.

Actually, from the labels of other paintings she sold, the missing word is "graphics."

Work is very typical of the 1950s-ish.

Don't know when Museum name changed but was Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts in the 1950s.

No! No! Don't go! The more eyes, the more rigorous thinking.

Eyes. Thinking (brain.) That didn't make very good sense but... you know what I mean. (I hope.)

So... that number on the Museum label may be an accession number. May be worth a telephone call...

I am having a bit of trouble imagining those heavy chimneys and their position on the roof anywhere in France.

Uhmmmmm. Maybe the artist had a chimney obsession which made him magnify those chimneys?

It’s difficult to tell which way the cars are facing? That could help to say European or American. But I can’t tell? That’s my only observation.

We drive on the right hand side of the road in Continental Europe, just like in North America.:)
