They don't announce them as centuries old... As coral, but certainly dyed bamboo coral, the most convincing beeing the two on the right:facepalm:

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

WELCOME to ANTIQUERS, @Howard Alward!! We can only post what we find, see, know from experience, think, or believe! I'm afraid nothing is going to convince me that your artifact or COA is authentically from that shipwreck that has SO much question as to it ever being ACTUALLY found. So Sorry!! Posters don't always get the results they are hoping for.......

    Too much!

So he literally signs his own COAs and applies them to whatever he imagines may have been on the Flor Do Mar?

That takes a lot of premeditation - wow!

He signed them with 'Sir' (have you ever seen queen Elizabeth sign with Queen?) and probably applied them to anything he thought would sell.

The COA is as good an ephemera collectible as the bead!

Hope we're not being too brutal on your MOL's memento, @Howard Alward, but such an interesting (and instructive) story!

Reminds me of the Gucci bag my wealthy sister gave me - it wasn't my style, so I never carried it. Plus, it was given by my sister, albeit a hand-me-down :)

Years later I finally bit the bullet and got ready to sell it - a fake!

She can afford to buy the real thing, but shops at Marshall's, too. I'll never know if she knew it was bogus, and I'll never ask! Lol

I just gave away a pony skin Dior she gave me last visit, also fake!

I'd be surprised if a centuries-old bead had a hole that was drilled so regularly.

Oh, and, I forgot to ask, , , , in regard to "dyed" coral. Is "dyeing" a "modern" occurrence or would coral have been dyed like this 200 to 300 years ago"??
