My mother in law gave me a bunch of old jewelry and I came across this. It looks like there might have been a marking on it at one time but wore down. Or it could just be my imagination. It is very heavy and measures about 2" IMG_20190426_113609824_HDR.jpg IMG_20190426_113549007_HDR.jpg

Gorgeous, Michelle. It looks like it is based on a fibula which has been turned into a brooch/pendant.
The disc shape could be Algerian, but the decoration looks Middle Eastern.
There could be tiny marks around the edge. Every minute indentation could be a mark.

To give you an idea, this was once an Algerian fibula, but it lost it's central pin and was turned into a pendant:

Pleasure, Michelle. Will you let us know if you find a mark? There could be several. And if possible, please show it, although they can be a pain to photograph. If I see it/them, I can probably be more precise about country and rough date.

See a mark looks like something but I might be nuts. Here is a zoomed in pic.

Yes. Did you mean around the edges?

Yes, for instance, this is a brooch from Tunisia:

The seller thought there were no marks, but there were, a total of 7.
Marks on the front, hidden in the twisted edge:

    On the pin, another favourite:

    I don't think that's a mark, but you're on the right track.:)

Michelle, I take my images at a very high resolution for my ads, and I have to scale them down to fit on forums. Done properly, they'll zoom out in high focus when clicked.

You'll need to do that if you start researching a lot of items with tiny details. :)

I can barely figure out how I manage to do it, but maybe @i need help can...help :)

    I start with 1:1 2160x2160 images, then scale to 900p x 150dpi

There are many formulas to get there.

Sorry, I can’t offer any advice on that. Seems like scouts knows more about that than I. :)

Looks like there could be something there.
It also helps if you don't hold it in your hand (movement) but put it down on a piece of paper, preferably white so as much natural light as possible is reflected.
I sometimes photograph small items on the back of an envelope.;) I think I did the Tunisian brooch and details that way.:shame:

I would photograph through a loupe, but I’m very low tech!
