Featured K. Uyeda String of Pearls circa 1970

@komokwa @Any Jewelry I thought I would post one of the pieces of jewelry that is actually mine. Mom bought this for me when I was 16 or so. I may have been younger. We were living in Tokyo at the time and we have several pearl jewelry pieces but I didn’t know if ya’ll wanted to see them or not. These pearls have always lived in this case. The jewelry we have from Japan isn’t all that old but I know these pearls were some of the best quality. At least I have been told that. Anyway, I know almost nothing about jewelry so please let me know if you would like to see more or not. I have a whole jewelry box full of things but I thought I would start with the pearls... (my apologies for the quality of the photos — this appears to be the best that my iPad can muster...)

 

This is just a little lighter and a little clearer............oooops....AND a little larger from the program.....I have NO CLUE what might be in the diamond shape, but the square looks like it has US in it.....and it looks like a small '1' to the left of the 'K14'.....at least that's what I see.......

 

And if I counted 75 pearls correctly, would that be worn as a double necklace or just a long one......it's beautiful by the way!!!!!

 

I will try to find a magnifying glass to see if I can read the symbol. The diamonds just allow you to clean it, I think. When you pull the clasp out, both “diamonds” give you access to the pearl and innards of the piece.

 

Thank you! No, it’s not a double. It won’t even go around my neck 1 1/2 times... My mom may have some double strands. I can’t remember. The jewelry box is chock full of beautiful Japanese cloth bags with jewelry inside.

 

Oh, that's interesting, but I was only referring to the 'solid diamond shape' above the one you can see in to.......if that makes sense......

 

To my eye there seems to be too many colour variations to be "top quality" but they are quite nice all the same.

 

I've always wanted to wear pearls....In St. Thomas USVI..I had the chance to buy a huge single black Tahitian pearl set in a round gold ring....at $ 400 us...I passed it up.....not a regret........but I shoulda !!!

It is a beautiful string of pearls, Jennifer.
Uyeda is a famous jeweller in Japan. During that time Uyeda sold Japanese Akoya pearls, and I assume these are too. Akoya pearls are good quality cultured saltwater pearls, and Akoya necklaces can fetch high prices.

That's one thing I've never seen.....a guy in a set of pearls....either black OR white!!! HMMMMMM.....wonder why!!!!???? Guys wear just about everything else!! Black could be very interesting...........

Henry the 8th wore pearls. They featured them in the last series I watched about him....some of the outfits had pearls sewn all over them.
